Which Bleaching Product is Right for Me?

Good question. First you need to know what each product can do for you and also what you want to achieve.

If the color of your teeth makes you unhappy, we can tell you if it is a problem stemming from the inside structure of your teeth or just on the surface. A tooth can be bleached from the inside only if it has had a root canal  treatment.

Bleaching Tapes and Bleaching Toothpaste which are over the counter products are the mildest form of home bleaching care. This treatment will not damage enamel, and  rarely causes sensitivity. It is a perfect way to remove light staining caused by coffee, tea, red wine, and mild smoking. This  daily treatment can be repeated ever 3 to 6 months.

Home Bleaching Trays require dental impressions for a perfect fit. Relief in the trays allows for addition of the bleaching gel provided by the doctor. You need to be followed while on this regimen to watch for sensitivity.  Staining comes off in hard to reach spots because each tooth is bathed in the  bleaching gel. Touch-ups should be limited to no more than every 6 months.

In-Office Bleaching is the strongest and fastest of all the methods. Each tooth is, cleaned and bleached chemically and with a light activation ( as in laser) . The enamel surface of the tooth  is altered so that light is refracted off the outer roughened surface of the tooth. The "white" light is now scattered giving the appearance of whiter teeth. This procedure takes about an hour for each arch, upper and lower. You may need to be treated for desensitization prior to this bleaching method. It should not be repeated sooner than  6 months to 1 year.

The alternative to bleaching is Porcelain Veneers and Porcelain Jackets. You will know exactly what shade your teeth will be.  We will thoroughly discuss your options at your bleaching consultation. Call for an appointment to get ready for your Special Occasion!
